The boards of Mountain Shelter, Inc. and Helping Overcome Poverty’s Existence, Inc. are thrilled to announce their merger, as approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission effective July 17, 2007!

This is the result of months of discussion and work, aimed at improving the impact both agencies make on our clients, our communities and our partners. We’re looking forward to building upon the housing work of Mountain Shelter and the anti-poverty work of H.O.P.E., Inc., in delivering a broader menu of services, to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged families and households in our service area: Bland, Wythe, Smyth, Carroll, Grayson and the city of Galax.

* The new name is the same as one of the old names: Helping Overcome Poverty’s Existence, Inc.;
* The new board is comprised of all members of both boards;
* The tax identification number remains the same of the larger parent organization, Mountain Shelter—it is 54-1630342
